Is your Omethoate Safe?
Are your workers, neighbours and children protected from the harmful effects of OOSTMP?
Omethoate is a pesticide active ingredient that has received close attention by the Australian Pesticides and Veterinary Medicines Authority (APVMA) in the last 2-3 years. This follows instances of detection of a toxicologically significant impurity of omethoate, O,O,S-trimethyl phosphorothioate (a.k.a. OOSTMP), at unacceptably high levels in product samples obtained by the APVMA.
OOSTMP is a potent neurotoxin, affecting the operation of the central nervous system and suppressing the immune system. Imtrade has the capacity to test for this harmful chemical in our own laboratory and a track record of doing this. Of our own volition, and at large expense, we have tested multiple samples and worked collaboratively with our manufacturer to progressively develop a product with diminishing OOSTMP impurity content. Over two years this impurity content has been reduced to of the order of 0.6g/kg, well within the regulators limit of 5g/kg. We continue to work on discharging our consumer protection responsibilities in full and in advance of our industry competitors utilizing our in-house laboratory that is well resourced with equipment, people and expertise.
