The Imtrader Ed.4 – Sclerotinia, Be Proactive!

High yield penalties up to 40% make Sclerotinia management a must for any canola program, as reported by the GRDC.

Sclerotinia is the most prevalent pathogen causing stem rot throughout canola growing areas. The pathogen favours wetter conditions, as shown in the lifecycle diagram published by DAFWA, below.

Apothecia have already been spotted in established crops in WA, and with high levels of disease pressure evident, a proactive approach to fugal management is imperative.

The GRDC recommend several control measures to combat Sclerotinia. They include:

  • Crop rotation
  • Variety selection
  • Clean seed
  • Crop management
  • Weed management
  • Fungicides

Imtrade Australia recently registered Nosclex 800WG (Procymidone 800g/kg) specifically for prevention and protection against this harmful pathogen. Procymidone is widely regarded as one of the leading fungicide treatments for Sclerotinia in canola, as demonstrated by the results obtained by DAFWA in conjunction with GRDC in the February 2015 trial displayed below.

In this example, Sumisclex (Procymidone) exhibited the greatest control of Sclerotinia as accessed by disease incidence and yield benefit.
