The Hon Barnaby Joyce MP has granted approval for 12 grants under the Assisted Grants – Access to Industry Priority Uses of Agvet Chemicals programme to the GRDC, three of which Imtrade Australia have been named as a co-investor partner.
As part of the applications, Imtrade Australia will be committed to an equal share of remaining expenses not covered by the grant applications, provide administrative resources and historical data for three submissions.
- Dry Pulse – Grass Weeds where it will extend the label of Imtrade Jetti Duo into dry pulse crops for the control of grass weeds. This will involve a series of four crop safety screening trials with each trial providing regional separation, differing soil types and will include five crop species with two varieties of each.
- Fallow – Summer Grass Weeds to extend the label of Imtrade Edge 900 into fallow situations for the control of grass weeds which will require a suite of efficacy and crop safety data. Imtrade Edge 900 is registered with the APVMA for use on canola crops and legume based pastures. Four plant-back safety screening trials will be required, two on summer crops and two on winter crops, all with regional separation.
- Canola – Grass Weeds to extend the label of Imtrade Jetti Duo into canola crops for the control of grass weeds. Imtrade Jetti Duo is registered with the APVMA for use on cereal crops targeting annual ryegrass, Trifluralin resistant annual ryegrass, brome grass, barley grass and wild oats. About the Assistance Grants – Access to Industry Priority Uses of Agvet Chemicals programme for 2015-16.
The Australian Government has committed $8 million over four years from 2014-15 to 2017-18 to support improved access to agvet chemicals. One element is an assistance grants programme to support applications to the Australian Pesticides and Veterinary Medicines Authority (APVMA) for industry agreed priority uses of agvet chemicals.
The grants programme was designed in consultation with APVMA and interested Research and Development Corporations, agricultural producers and rural industry peak bodies. These important stakeholders were also consulted throughout the development of programme guidelines.
Access to safe and effective agricultural and veterinary (agvet) chemicals is important to Australian agricultural and livestock industries, the community and the environment. The grants programme will assist industry to gain or maintain access to the identified priority uses of agvet chemicals.
